One of the Class 40 enthusiast communities all time favourites, 25 was one of the two very noteable Longsight (Manchester) ‘moaners’ and perhaps the loudest of the two. It was a vacuum only machine and with an operational steam heating generator until the end of its operational life, a reasonable cert to appear on a passenger train in winter. The pronounced moaning sound was created by the engine cooling fan and fan housing. It is depicted here in 1982, in quite a clean condition some time after its appearance at Northwich Depot Open Day. It was a sad day for the enthusiast community when 25 was withdrawn in 1983.
